ECO
In summer, warm air would be released through skylights. In winter, sunlight would warm up the room. The ecological life style results in increasing hours without air conditioner.
Warm in winter
Insultation and passive solar gain
High performance panels and insulated glasses will absorb and hold warmth from sunlight. Because skylights bring sufficient daylight, the size of façade windows can be smaller, which contributes to better insulation of the room. So the house would limit the use of heating in wintertime.
Cool in summer
Ventilation & heat evacuation
Skylights let go of heat inside house since heated air moves upward to the ceiling in a house. If the heat is released from skylights, the room would be cooler in summer. With sensible wind, sensational temperature is substantially lower.
Cool in summer
Night cooling, effective in summer
Even in summer, outside air night time is cooler than daytime. Venting air and cooling the rooms at night, next morning would be cool and comfortable.
Utilizing the cooling effect
Indoor is cool after night cooling. Air conditioner isn’t necessary in the morning! Solar shade on skylight effectively reduces solar radiation.

The table shows that installing skylights with awning blind only has an insignificant impact on the energy need for heating and cooling.
The calculations show that skylight model with solar shading on facade windows has the lowest energy use. In comparison with no skylight no solar shade, total energy use is 10% lower, and cooling load decrease by 50%.
