Bathroom

From being a purely functional room for a quick wash in the morning, the bathroom has become a place of leisure where members of the family can relax and recharge their batteries. Over the past few decades, the bathroom has become bigger and new types of furniture have found their way into the room that used to be more clinical.

This development places new demands on bathroom lighting. An efficient working light is still required, but many people also want more air, a better view – and the opportunity to dim the light.

Take a bath in the light

Daylight is the light that best and most naturally reflects colours and skin, and a window also makes it possible to ventilate the room properly. A window that you can open to prevent damp and create a comfortable and fresh atmosphere is essential.

Enjoy the daylight by using glass partitions in the bathroom, e.g. for the shower. In this way, light comes into the bathroom and further into the rest of the room.

Choose light colours for the tiles, ceiling and walls as they reflect daylight, especially if the room is not very big. Glazed surfaces, e.g. tiles, reflect light even better than painted walls due to their shiny surface.

Good light in the bathroom

  • Daylight creates light and welcoming rooms. Skin tones and colour, body shape and face have a soft and natural appearance.
  • Windows provide ventilation, minimising damp problems. With roof windows, you no longer to need to worry about curious neighbours, only inquisitive birds and wildlife.
  • Make the most of the daylight: Use glass for partitions and other dividing panels in the bathroom, for example around the shower cubicle.
  • Combine a good source of daylight with effective artificial lighting to ensure there is always ample light in the bathroom, for example for doing your make-up, removing contact lenses and cleaning.
  • Choose light colours for the tiles, ceiling and walls. They reflect the daylight well and enhance the sense of space.
